Artist Biography

SALLY CHAN, born and raised in Hong Kong, a special administrative region city of China and a colony of the British Empire until 1997, Sally grew up under the unique cultural blend of Western and Eastern worlds.

This background planted the seed of her worldly view that all humans, the planet, and the universe are essentially all connected as a whole. It also opened the door of Japanese art, Manga.  It also nurtured her appreciation for diverse genres, complex, emotional graphical narratives, the beauty of lines art, expressive flows, and balance between positive shapes and negative spaces.

She moved to the United States in 2001. After graduating with a BFA from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, she started her career as a business professional and a multimedia designer. She fell in love with her first canvas painting experience in 2013 – it also brought her back to her likings of colors and lights as a child and started her journey as a multidisciplinary artist since then. After revisiting the artistic root of her inner child, she develops a diverse taste in art, from classic artists like Salvador Dali, Leonardo Da Vinci, Gustav Klimt, Claude Monet to various artists around the world.

Stemmed from these inspirations, Sally uses various art mediums as her expressive vehicles, including painting, mixed media, multimedia, and pushes the boundary of traditional and digital art to create a soul-reflecting experience.

Artist Statement

As an artist with an insatiable curiosity who believes in psychology, spirituality, and humanity, she understands life is a tumultuous journey of inevitable joys and grievances. Through the power of self-awareness and awakening our inner child, we can all heal our scars and find our inner peace by facing our emotions – our inner truth.

She believes in using art as a vehicle to serve and creates with Faith, Love, Passion, and Blessing.

Her body of work is a constant exploration of possibilities, imaginations, self-reflection, and the expression of love and hope. By connecting our emotions and consciousness through vibrant, bold, and intuitive visual elements, she creates a parallel universe with the collective memories from all of us to help us remember who we are.

Everything is stardust. We are all connected.

I always admire and in awe of the unlimited possibility of the colors and lights. This series is the interpretation of the beautiful existence of all life forms in our world.

This series is about enjoying the present, following and listening to the heart with trust and confidence, and capturing the feels in motions and the intuitive flow of brush strokes at the moment.

To me, imagination is a door to the exploration of the universe. A place of light and darkness that can hold all powers and possibilities. A double-edged sword of salvations and destructions. This series is about Love. Sadness. Anger. Madness. Beauty. Darkness. Hope. Authenticity and Happiness.
